C3M promotes virtual campaigns for Earth Week; next meeting March 29

Dear Friends,
As the Steering Committee of the Connecticut Climate Crisis Mobilization (C3M), we are writing to you, our partners in the Climate Action of September 20 and other actions last fall, because plans for another series of actions during the week of Earth Day must now be radically changed. Click here for our original letter and signatories. No more rallies or marches, or any other kind of gatherings in physical space. We want to hear from you in this moment of crisis.
Crisis often clarifies what is most important in our lives.
We are currently in a medical crisis unfolding over a matter of weeks across the world and in our communities. We are learning how to reach out rapidly through mutual aid to those who are most vulnerable to this new crisis, and, at the same time, turning to the experts -- the scientists, doctors and other medical professionals -- to understand what to expect, what actions we can take to reduce the size and scope of the wave that is about to hit, and how to prepare.
At the same time, we are currently in a climate crisis that has been unfolding gradually over decades, that has already affected millions of human lives around the world, and that has changed our atmosphere and oceans and ecosystems in ways that may be impossible to repair for hundreds or even thousands of years. The climate movement is still learning how to reach out to those who are most vulnerable to all the interlocking crises that have been with us for decades, and that will be made much worse with the wave of climate disasters that scientists have been warning us about -- unless we are able to act in time.
While there are tremendous immediate needs in the face of the Coronavirus, the Steering Committee of C3M are also aware that through years of denial and avoidance, the need for climate action is also urgent.
We have ideas of how climate action can continue through campaigns carried out through creative use of social media, through symbolic actions that involve only a few people, and even through the medium of t-shirts. We know that you have your own ideas, and we would like to hear them.
We would also like to find out what is most important to you in this moment of crisis. What do we need to be doing as a unified, mobilized coalition? What messages should we be speaking with one loud voice?
We need to act fast -- as Naomi Klein described in “The Shock Doctrine,” the forces of disaster capitalism are wasting no time in using our current crisis to bail out the financial industries and the airlines, to prop up the oil companies and to crack down harder on our borders.

Connecticut Climate Crisis Mobilization
Mission:
The Connecticut Climate Crisis Mobilization (C3M) will mobilize a coalition of organizations throughout Connecticut to accelerate urgently needed action toward a just transition to 100% clean renewable energy and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, an end to environmental racism, and an economy based on human needs.
Strategy:
C3M will build the climate movement by making connections among groups such as faith communities, unions, and organizations dedicated to peace, immigrant rights, sustainable agriculture, and social justice as well as environmental organizations.
C3M will leverage the power of our movement to implement our goals in public policy through campaigns of advocacy, including legislative efforts, climate education, mass rallies, and direct action.

Queridos amigos/as,
Como Comité Directivo de la Movilización de la Crisis Climática de Connecticut (C3M), les escribimos a ustedes, nuestros socios en la Acción Climática del 20 de septiembre y otras acciones del otoño pasado, porque nuestros planes para otra serie de acciones durante la semana del Día de la Tierra deben ahora cambiar radicalmente. No más mítines o marchas, o cualquier otro tipo de reuniones en el espacio físico. Queremos oir de ustedes en este momento de crisis.
Una crisis a menudo aclara lo que es más importante en nuestras vidas.
Actualmente estamos en una crisis médica que se desarrolla en cuestión de semanas en todo el mundo y en nuestras comunidades. Estamos aprendiendo alcanzar rápidamente a través de la ayuda mutua a los más vulnerables a esta nueva crisis y, al mismo tiempo, recurriendo a los expertos -- los científicos, médicos y otros profesionales de la medicina -- para entender qué esperar, qué medidas podemos tomar para reducir el tamaño y el alcance de la ola que está a punto de llegar y cómo prepararse.
Al mismo tiempo, nos encontramos actualmente en una crisis climática que se ha ido desarrollando gradualmente durante décadas, que ya ha afectado a millones de vidas humanas en todo el mundo y que ha cambiado nuestra atmósfera y los océanos y ecosistemas de maneras que pueden ser imposibles de reparar durante cientos o incluso miles de años. Tenemos que actuar con rapidez -- como Naomi Klein describió en "La Doctrina del Shock," las fuerzas del capitalismo del desastre no pierden tiempo en utilizar nuestra crisis actual para rescatar a las industrias financieras y a las aerolíneas, para apuntalar a las compañías petroleras y para tomar medidas más severas en nuestras fronteras.

Movilización de la crisis climática de Connecticut
Misión:
La Movilización para la Crisis Climática de Connecticut (C3M) movilizará una coalición de organizaciones en todo Connecticut para acelerar las medidas urgentes necesarias para una transición justa hacia una energía renovable 100% limpia y cero emisiones netas de gases de efecto invernadero para 2030, el fin del racismo ambiental y una economía basada en las necesidades humanas.
Estrategia:
